Program Overview

Your child's customized IOP

Our specialized, comprehensive treatment programs are designed for adolescents whose daily functioning is significantly impaired by obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), complex anxiety, depression, self-harm, and trauma symptoms.

Our tailored IOP programs are grounded in evidence-based practices, with a strong emphasis on daily exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). These approaches help your teen reduce symptom-related distress, empowering them to grow and lead meaningful, fluffing and values-based lives.

Our programs can be conducted in-person, virtually, or through a hybrid model with flexible programs allowing your family to schedule IOP's around existing commitments. Intensity ranges from 9 to 15 hours per week, depending on your child's individual needs.

At The Anxiety Center, we are committed to helping our participants work through their symptoms and pursue their personal values, demonstrating that a fulfilling life is possible despite uncertainty or discomfort. Join us in our Intensive Outpatient Programs and take the first step towards a brighter, managed future.

IOP for Teens

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for teens ages 14-17 is designed to provide a comprehensive therapeutic environment that addresses the unique challenges faced by this age group. The program focuses on five primary areas: Disruptive Behavior, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Self-Harm. By integrating Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as the core curriculum and incorporating specialized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) depending on the area of focus, we help teens build essential skills in a supportive and engaging setting.

Program Tracks:

  1. Disruptive Behavior

  2. Anxiety

  3. School Refusal

  4. Depression

  5. Trauma

  6. Self-Harm

Program Components:

Both Individual, Family, & Group Therapy

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT):

    • Mindfulness: Techniques to enhance self-awareness and present-moment focus.

    • Emotion Regulation: Strategies to manage and respond to intense emotions effectively.

    • Distress Tolerance: Skills to tolerate and survive crises without making things worse.

    • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Methods to improve communication and relationship skills.

  • Specialized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Tailored CBT interventions depending on the specific track, focusing on modifying dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors.

  • Experiential Psychotherapy: Incorporates activities that promote artistic expression, movement, nutrition, and community building to support overall mental health and well-being.

  • Facing Your Fears: Gradual exposure and supportive guidance to help pre-teens confront and manage their fears.

  • Self-Management/Control: Techniques to enhance self-control and self-management skills, promoting healthier decision-making and behaviors.

  • Developmentally Leveled Milieu: Creating a supportive and developmentally appropriate environment where pre-teens can learn and practice new skills effectively.

Medication Management:

  • A psychiatrist or pediatrician specialized in child psychiatry will manage and oversee any necessary medication, ensuring it is part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Parent University:

  • A program component dedicated to educating and involving parents in their child's treatment.

  • Parents will receive training on the principles of CBT and strategies to support their child's emotional and behavioral development at home.

  • This ensures that the entire family is aligned and actively participating in the therapeutic process.

Neuropsychological Testing:

  • When necessary, additional neuropsychological testing will be conducted to better understand the child’s cognitive and emotional functioning.

  • This testing aids in implementing effective school-based support strategies tailored to the child's needs.

Continuous Collaboration:

  • Our clinic maintains continuous communication and collaboration with the child's school and family.

  • This approach ensures comprehensive, wraparound services that address the child's needs across different environments.

Academic Support:

  • Academic support is embedded into the daily schedule, ensuring that children do not fall behind in their schoolwork while receiving treatment.

  • Why The Anxiety Center
The Anxiety Center is a remarkable place in that it believes that its employees are its most valuable asset. Our center was developed by clinicians and for clinicians for the benefit our patients. While working here you will find a warm and fun-filled environment where you are challenged to deliver the best in behavioral healthcare to children and adults, while also striking work/life balance. We know you are at your best when you are validated in the workplace, given the tools to suceed, and encounter real growth potential. Our staff is uniquely positioned to promote deep and lasting change in their patients through our evidence-based programming and ongoing treatment innovations.
  • Treatment Programs
Our center runs four separate programs. The first is our assessment program which conducts neuropsychological, psychoeducational, executive functioning, and autism evaluations. We focus on delivering accurate, timely, and accessible reports written for the family and directly linked to the child's or adult's intervention needs. Secondly, we have an anxiety program which treats the full range of anxiety and OC spectrum disorders. Treatment protocols in the anxiety clinic are heavily based on current research in exposure therapy, but include other cognitive behavioral strategies based on the individual needs of the patient. Thirdly, we have a mood disorders program which treats depressive disorders, bipolar spectrum disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, suicidality and self-harm. Treatment in our mood program focuses on core CBT, mindfulness-based treatment, and behavioral activation. The level of integration of each facet depends on the child's needs and response to treatment. Finally, our co-occurring behavior program will take on cases of oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, ADHD, and autism related agression and social skills development. This program is grounded in behavior analysis with moderate integration of cognitive techniques when indicated. While we do welcome all applicants, it will be important to consider if our approach to treatment is a good match for your interest and skill set. We value the contributions of all those in the mental health field, but one of our core values is to deliver treatment that is firmly established in scientific research. If this value is in aligment with the way that you approach treatment and you are willing to engage in harnassing your skills in empirical treatment, then we believe you may be an incredible asset to our team.
  • Professional Development
Just as The Anxiety Center is committed to excellence in treatment, we are also equally committed to continuous improvement and staying on the forefront of advances in the field. Every clinician in our center takes part in ongoing collaborative supervision and embedded professional development that leverages the combined expertise of our staff. Additionally, The Anxiety Center supports professional development beyond our four walls that enhances the lifelong learning for all staff. Professional development for our team is extensive and takes place in United States and around the world through: 1. Self-directed learning 2. In-house didactics and supervision 3. Conferences, workshop, courses, and institutes 4. Site visits at other facilities 5. Responsive training based upon clinician and patient feedback
