At The Anxiety Center, we are committed to providing comprehensive, coordinated care for our patients, ensuring access to a full range of advanced treatment options in one location. Our team is highly skilled, dedicated, and compassionate, specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), medication management, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), ketamine infusions, and intensive outpatient services.
These services are delivered through a team-based, coordinated approach tailored to individual needs. We emphasize frequent outcome measurement to ensure we consistently achieve clinical results, even for the most complex and severe cases of mental illness.
Our goal is to offer the highest quality mental health care, working diligently to support our patients in achieving the best possible outcomes.
We treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions, with a specialization in complex and severe presentations of anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, BPD, suicidality, and related conditions. In situations where we may not be able to provide effective care at an outpatient level, we ensure to refer and assist prospective patients in connecting with the appropriate provider. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may have; we are here to help.
At The Anxiety Center, we work diligently to ensure that our services are accessible to all patients. All of our service lines are paneled with most major insurances, including Medicaid and Medicare, with the exception of individual psychotherapy and intravenous ketamine. Currently, insurers do not cover ketamine treatments. Regarding individual psychotherapy, we have chosen not to panel due to the current payer landscape, which does not support the high-quality care we are committed to providing. However, for all other services, such as medication management, TMS, Esketamine, and intensive outpatient services, we strive to increase accessibility for all our patients, regardless of financial circumstances. We work to develop creative solutions when finances present an obstacle.
Please refer to our Fees + Insurance page for further information.
At The Anxiety Center, our approach to medication management is centered on creating custom-tailored treatment paths based on a comprehensive treatment algorithm, patient preference, and pharmacogenomic testing. We strive to provide the best treatments in behavioral health, delivered by our highly skilled psychiatric providers.
When your medication management is conducted through our center, we ensure a seamless coordination of psychological and biological treatment efforts. As your prescriber is an integral part of the TAC treatment team, there is ongoing communication between clinicians, enhancing the overall quality of your care.
At TAC, medication titration and response are closely monitored through frequent measurement of patient symptoms. This allows us to make real-time adjustments based on collected data, aiming to minimize side effects and increase therapeutic response. Our method ensures that every aspect of your treatment is aligned with your unique needs, providing the highest standard of care.
We believe that psychotherapy is the backbone of holistic psychiatric care and recommend it as an essential element in our treatment packages. Psychotherapy can be seen as the "physical therapy" for the brain, enhancing the efficacy and durability of biological treatments when done in coordination. Our clinicians are trained in the specialized delivery of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), tailored to the individual profiles of our patients.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a family of psychotherapies that has been shown to be effective in thousands of research studies, including a high number of randomized control trials—the gold standard for clinical research. CBT is firmly established as the therapy of choice for a wide range of mental health disorders, including anxiety disorders. While there are variances between different cognitive behavioral therapies, they all share common traits: they are time-sensitive, structured, actionable, and present-oriented.
At The Anxiety Center, we do not follow a one-size-fits-all approach to CBT. Instead, we design treatment plans based on your specific profile, detailing the biopsychosocial processes that maintain your disorder and identifying the treatment methods most likely to bring about change. You and your child will work to identify the most important treatment goals and learn how to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way.
We understand that the variety of therapies available can be overwhelming—Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, to name a few. Our goal is to simplify this for you, ensuring you are informed about the therapies most pertinent to your condition, without feeling the need to navigate the complexities alone. At The Anxiety Center, we are committed to providing you with the most relevant and effective therapeutic approaches to support your mental health journey.
It is impossible to discuss anxiety treatment without highlighting exposure therapy (ERP), a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Developed to help individuals gradually confront their fears, ERP is now considered the most effective single treatment for anxiety disorders.
When people are fearful of something, they often avoid the feared objects, activities, or situations, which reinforces the fear response in the brain. Through a neurobiological process called extinction learning, exposure therapy allows a person with anxiety to learn safety cues strong enough to inhibit the original fear. This new learning leads to a reduction in anxiety symptoms over time and promotes more adaptive behaviors.
Exposure therapy works by systematically and repeatedly exposing the individual to the feared object or situation in a controlled and gradual manner. This approach helps to break the cycle of avoidance and fear, allowing the brain to form new, non-threatening associations. Over time, the individual becomes desensitized to the fear trigger, leading to significant and lasting reductions in anxiety.
At The Anxiety Center, our clinicians are highly trained in delivering ERP tailored to each patient's unique needs. We design personalized treatment plans that detail the specific processes maintaining the disorder and identify the most effective methods to address them. This individualized approach ensures that our patients receive the best possible care, facilitating their journey toward overcoming anxiety and leading a more fulfilling life.
Our goal at The Anxiety Center is to help our patients achieve wellness as quickly and effectively as possible. However, we recognize that each journey is unique, and we are committed to supporting our patients every step of the way, regardless of complexity. Here are some rough ranges based on moderate complexity cases, but please note that a more accurate estimate requires comprehensive clinical data:
Psychotherapy: Typically lasts for 14-20 weeks with once-per-week appointments. The duration can be adjusted for more intensive scheduling to accelerate progress.
Medication Management: Medications usually start outperforming placebo around week 4 but may take up to 10-12 weeks to reach maximum efficacy.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): Consists of 36 sessions over the course of 7 weeks.
Ketamine Infusions: Involve an acute series of 6-10 infusions, followed by maintenance doses based on individual needs.
Please note that these are only estimates, and actual treatment times can vary significantly. We tailor our treatment plans to meet the specific needs of each patient, ensuring the most effective and efficient path to recovery.
At The Anxiety Center, we welcome and respect patients from diverse religious and non-religious backgrounds, treating everyone with the same level of concern and dignity. We encourage patients to disclose any religious preferences during intake so that we can pair them with a clinician who is well-suited to meet their needs and enhance their comfort.
All of our clinicians are committed to working respectfully with patients, showing sensitivity and care for their beliefs while delivering evidence-based care in an unbiased manner. We recognize that spirituality plays a vital role in the lives of many families we work with. Current research also suggests that spirituality can significantly contribute to addressing mental health concerns, and many patients prefer to have their spirituality integrated into psychological treatment.
At The Anxiety Center, we prioritize assessing spirituality with all patients. However, the integration of faith-based content into treatment is done only at the discretion of the patient or the child’s family. Depending on your religious orientation, we may be able to connect you with a therapist who practices your faith. If we do not have a therapist with your specific religious orientation, we are happy to partner with religious leaders to address any concerns you may have.
We are dedicated to providing culturally and religiously sensitive care that respects and honors the individual needs and beliefs of each patient, ensuring a holistic and supportive treatment experience.
We pride ourselves on working with parents and children, even under the most challenging circumstances. Whether your child is managing temper outbursts, school refusal, severe OCD, or any other condition impacting their access to care, we are committed to developing a strategy to help them re-engage with their lives. This often requires a coordinated effort and family involvement.
While we hope that every child is ready and willing to participate in treatment from the start, we understand that this is not always the case. To address these situations, we offer the capability to conduct initial assessments in your home and provide therapy in that setting if necessary. Additionally, we offer evidence-based therapies focused on developing parent management skills, which have been shown to be effective in clinical trials and may provide an adequate starting point for treatment.
At The Anxiety Center, we are dedicated to finding the best approach for each child and family, working hand-in-hand to ensure that every child receives the care and support they need to thrive.
Policy
Medication Management and TMS
The Cincinnati Anxiety Center is currently in-network for Anthem, Cigna, Humana, Aetna and United Health for medication management and TMS (TMS not for approved by United Health insurance). If you do not have one of these insurances please refer to our treatment cost tab to determine rates.
Psychotherapy
The Anxiety Center works as an out-of-network facility for all insurance plans. This means you will pay directly (fee-for-service) for therapy services, but we provide what is called a "Superbill" that gives you all the information needed to submit any claims. Any reimbursement for which you are eligible for will be sent directly to the policyholder. Although we will make our best effort to help you obtain reimbursement, we cannot guarantee payment. Many of our patients pay for therapy services using their Health Savings Account card.
Rationale
Our approach allows us to make optimal treatment decisions regarding length and type of therapy without the generic constraints often imposed by insurance companies. Current research suggests anxiety treatments—particularly for moderate to severe/extreme symptoms—may be more beneficial when sessions are longer in length (e.g., 90-120 minutes) and massed (e.g., daily or several times a week) rather than when they are shorter or spaced less frequently (e.g., weekly). We are committed to providing your child with the best treatment available. Although our fees may require some upfront costs/investment, we are confident that our method of cost-effective, results-oriented therapy will result in shorter treatment cycles and lower out-of-pocket costs for you.
Given TAC's treatment protocols are evidenced-based, short term, and results driven, the total cost of treatment is often a fraction of what it might be in other settings. We ensure that treatment is not extended longer than required, and our comprehensive assessment procedures shorten the length of therapy so that patients improve more quickly. The duration of individual sessions is scheduled in advance in accordance with each patient’s treatment plan – there are no surprise fees or charges. Rates vary by clinician level of training and experience. It is important to gain a complete understanding of your financial and medical circumstances before determining service rate and clinician.
Our commitment is to put forward our best effort to never deny services. In turn we ask prospective clients to do their part in committing to a reasonable income-based rate so that all can benefit irrespective of their socio-economic situation. Also consider that if you have out-of-network benefits, your reimbursement may cover a significant portion of total cost. We understand that affording mental health services can be a daunting task for many families. Our team is committed to reducing barriers to effective treatment and are continually investigating ways to increase access while maintaining the viability of our business and treatment model. Currently we have three options for increasing treatment affordability.
Flex Pricing - aka Sliding Scale. At TAC we offer flexible service pricing based on financial need and clinical severity (total expected expenditure). If you wish to apply for the flex service rate, we request that families provide documentation of your total family income, the number of legal dependents that you are financially responsible for, and claim on your taxes, and current out-of-pocket monthly mental health expenses. After reviewing these documents, if a family qualifies, we will provide a revised fee for you to review before deciding whether to proceed with services
Doctoral Practicum Trainees - We collaborate with the University of Cincinnati's School Psychology doctoral program as an externship training site. Student's who work with us will have already earned their masters degrees and demonstrated the competency to function as a clinician while under the close supervision of our Director. Participating as a training site allows for us to provide services at a discounted rate under circumstances where those services are appropriate.
Community Partners - We are in the process of developing partnerships with local churches and businesses who are committed to assist the funding of mental health services in the community.
We want to do our very best to connect our patients to the resources they need in order to access treatment. As an additional layer of support we have partnered with Advance Care to provide financing options that can be applied to all of our behavioral health services if needed.
